A capsule adapter lets you brew Nespresso Original pods in a Dolce Gusto machine. If you already own a Dolce Gusto but prefer the coffees that come in Nespresso-style pods, an adapter means you do not need a second machine. Here is how it works, which machines it fits and how to get the best cup from it.
How a capsule adapter works
Dolce Gusto capsules are wide and flat, and Nespresso Original capsules are small and dome-shaped, so a Nespresso pod will not sit or seal in a Dolce Gusto holder on its own. The adapter is a reusable holder the same shape as a Dolce Gusto capsule. You place a Nespresso Original pod inside it, press it closed so the built-in needles pierce the pod, and then insert the adapter into your machine as you would a normal capsule.
Which machines does it fit?
Our Capsule Adapter for Dolce Gusto works with most Dolce Gusto machines, including:
- Genio 2
- Mini Me (EDG305)
- Melody
- EDG606 and EDG250

Step by step
- Open the adapter and place one aluminium Nespresso Original capsule inside.
- Close the adapter and press down firmly so the needles pierce the capsule.
- Insert the adapter into your Dolce Gusto machine's capsule holder.
- Choose your cup size and brew.
- Let it stand for 1 to 2 minutes before you remove it, as some water may stay inside after brewing.
Tips for a better cup
- Use aluminium Nespresso Original capsules. Refillable steel capsules do not work in the adapter.
- Start with a small cup setting, as Nespresso pods are made for espresso and lungo sizes.
- Rinse the adapter with water after each use and brush the needle area now and then with the cleaning brush included in the box.
Frequently asked questions
Will it damage my machine? No. The adapter sits in the capsule holder like a normal Dolce Gusto capsule and the machine brews as usual.
Can I use ground coffee in it? This adapter is made for Nespresso Original pods. For your own ground coffee in a Lumio, use the Lumio ground coffee adapter.
