Capsules are convenient, but they limit you to the coffees that come in them. If you own a Dolce Gusto Lumio (EDG325), a reusable adapter lets you brew your own ground coffee in the same machine.
What you need
- A Dolce Gusto Lumio (EDG325) machine
- A reusable ground coffee adapter made for the Lumio
- Extra-fine ground coffee, about 15g per cup
Step by step
- Flip open the lid of the adapter.
- Fill it with about 15g of extra-fine ground coffee and close the lid.
- Place the adapter in the machine in place of a capsule.
- Brew as you normally would.
- Empty the grounds and rinse the adapter with water.
Getting a better cup
- Grind matters most. The adapter is designed for extra-fine ground coffee. A coarse grind lets water run through too quickly and the cup tastes weak.
- Keep the filter clear. Rinse after every use, and brush the stainless steel filter screen after repeated use so old grounds do not block it.
- Adjust to taste. If the cup is too strong or too weak, change the amount of coffee slightly and try again.
Why bother?
- You choose the coffee, including beans from your local roaster.
- The adapter is reusable, so you throw away fewer capsules.
- Ground coffee usually costs less per cup than capsules.
Have a different Dolce Gusto machine?
This adapter is made for the Lumio only. For other models, such as the Genio 2 or Mini Me, a capsule adapter lets you use Nespresso Original capsules instead. Read more in Can you use Nespresso pods in a Dolce Gusto machine?
